KCH is an international centre of excellence in blood disease. The department has 3 non-clinical Professors, 6 clinical professors, 1 reader, 4 senior lecturers, 4 lecturers and 17 consultant/honorary consultant NHS staff; 15 specialist registrars, 3 clinical fellows and 10 SHOs. The haemato-oncology section provides an integrated clinical and research service at a national and international level. The haemato-oncology section is an international centre of excellence for myeloid disease, including myelodysplastic syndromes, bone marrow failure syndromes (particularly aplastic anaemia and associated disorders). The department is one of two national centres for paroxysmal Haemoglobinuria. Haemato-oncology services include the largest haemopoietic stem cell programme in the UK, and one of the largest allograft programmes in Europe; with an emphasis on transplantation for myeloid disorders.
