13th Floor, NMS Building, KEM Hospital Campus, Parel 400012 Mumbai • India
Dr Prabhakar Kedar, Scientist ‘D’ has worked in the Department of Hematogenetics for the last 24 years. He has been working on hereditary hemolytic anemia due to red cell enzymopathies, red cell membrane protein disorders and congenital methemoglobinemia. He is well versed with biochemical as well as molecular analysis of these disorders and has identified several novel mutations. He had the opportunity of being awarded a fellowship under department of Science and Technology (DST)-Japan Ronpaku fellowship for PhD in 2003, where he had worked for 3 months every year during the course of his PhD program in Japan under his Japanese advisor Prof Kazuyuki Shimizu and 9 months each year at NIIH. Prof Shimizu gave outstanding remarks for his PhD work. He was successfully awarded his PhD in biotechnology in 2007 from Kyushu Institute of Technology and JSPS has been awarded gold medal for his PhD thesis. During his PhD fellowship he had the opportunity of working with Prof Hitoshi Kanno, Institute of Medical Genetics, Tokyo Women’s medical University Tokyo. He has learnt various molecular biology techniques for gene expression by real time PCR, DNA Micro array analysis, and protein expression by 2D MALDI TOF MS during his stay. He had short term training in Bioinformatics at CCMB Hyderabad. Dr Kedar has also received post doctoral training under the ICMR international fellowship program for Indian Young biomedical Scientist in 2009 for six months. He worked at Harvard Medical School Boston USA under his post doctoral Mentor Prof Seth Alper, (Prof of Medicine, BIDMC). He had learnt various molecular as well as functional studies related to red cell membrane protein defects. He has won several laurels like the DST-JSPS fellowship, ICMR International fellowship for young biomedical scientist, American Society of Hematology (USA) Travel grant and JC Patel Best paper award. Dr Kedar is an intelligent and sincere scientist. He is an outstanding person with broad background and unique expertise in molecular biology, biochemical engineering and metabolic disorders. He has published 48 research papers in national and international journals on hereditary hemolytic anemia.
