Hyperhomocysteinaemia congenital
Is the elevation in the plasma concentration of homocysteine. Nutritional deficiencies of vitamin B12 and folic acid can lead to an elevated plasma homocysteine concentration. This condition is an established risk factor for venous thrombosis and arteriosclerosis. Patients with hyperhomocysteinemia have higher physiologic requirements for folic acid due to accelerated erythropoiesis.
