This is a rare clinical form of hereditary stomatocytosis. Red cells are overhydrated and this is the cause of their decreased life-span in the circulation. Clinical manifestations are almost identical to those of hereditary spherocytosis (or Minkowski Chauffard disease) but with circulating stomatocytes instead of spherocytes.
