I was diagnosed with DKC, 4 years ago, at the age of 40. In the literature I have found that exercise is not conducive to the disease. I have been exercising daily since I was probably in my teens and it has not harmed me in any way. In fact I would say it has helped me from having the disease move to the advanced stages. I am a karate sensei and school administrator. My day starts at 5:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m.
If I would not have been diagnosed with the disease I would have not known that it can affect various systems of the body. But according the literature it should slow me down physically in some way it has not.
I continue exercising daily but my symptoms remain the same but have not progressed.. I have the patchy white blotches on my upper torso and to a lesser degreeon my legs, oral leukoplakia at times and cracking and ridged fingernails and toes.
I hope researchers can look again at the benefit of exercise on this disease. I do aerobic training including powerwalking and jump rope. I lift weights and do bodyweight calistentics along with karate training which involves special breathing.
